Mr Theo Bhengu is the Deputy Executive Director of the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC).

The Office of the Deputy Executive Director of the HEQC is responsible for four broad areas of operation:

• coordination of quality assurance in higher education
• international relations
• delegation of stipulated quality assurance functions to higher education institutions
• the Higher Education Quality Committee Information System (HEQCIS)
