CHE Vision for Higher Education
The vision of the CHE for Higher Education in South Africa is a diverse, dynamic and sustainable system that responds to transformational, social and economic development needs. It is a system that adheres to the principles of good governance and management, produces graduates of high quality and advances knowledge.
CHE Vision
The vision of the CHE is to be an independent national resource that is a transparent, non-partisan, intellectually engaging body that advocates quality, leads debate and influences policy in higher education.
CHE Mission
The Council on Higher Education (CHE) is as an independent statutory body created in terms of the Higher Education Act, No. 101 of 1997. It contributes to the development of higher education in South Africa through:
- Providing advice to the Minister of Higher Education and Training
- Functioning as the Quality Council for Higher Education
- Advocating for higher education, and promoting understanding of and debate about higher education
The CHE operates as a national entity under Schedule 3A of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA, Act No. 1 of 1999, as amended). It adheres to principles of good governance in financial and non-financial management and is accountable to the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa.
