Pilot audits
|
Note: Three pilot audits were conducted in 2003. The pilot audit reports were sent to the three volunteer institutions. Since then the HEQC has effected various changes in its approach to institutional audits. The current approach to institutional audits was informed by the comments and reflections the HEQC received from the auditors, including the international auditor and the international observer, the piloted institutions and the HEQC - commissioned research on the pilot audit process.
The aims of the pilot audits were to:
- Develop the institutional audit system.
- Test the institutional audit procedures and criteria.
- Evaluate the institutional audit system.
The critical elements of the national institutional audit system were put in place beginning in 2004. These include the draft Institutional Audit Manual which provides the policies, procedures and audit criteria.
The pilot audits took place between September and October 2003.
Three institutions were selected to be part of the pilot audits, a public provider,
The University of Pretoria, a Technikon,
Vaal Triangle Technikon, and a private
provider, Midrand Graduate Institute. These institutions were asked to provide the HEQC with reflective and critical feedback on general and specific aspects of the audit process.
