Welcome to the Monitoring and Advice Directorate

The main responsibility of the Monitoring and Advice Directorate of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) is to monitor and evaluate policy achievements in higher education. The Directorate's approach to this is described in the CHE's Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (reference: Towards A Framework for the Monitoring and Evaluation of South African Higher Education).

The Directorate also carries out other activities to support the CHE Board and the CHE's Chief Executive Officer to fulfill the CHE's core function of providing advice on higher education issues to the Minister of Education. The Directorate manages the CHE's publications, and maintains a resource centre that supports the information needs of the CHE.

The work of the Directorate takes place in collaboration with local and international experts and with stakeholders in South African higher education. It supports the CHE's commitment to the development of higher education in South Africa by actively promoting and supporting a critical community of higher education policy analysts and researchers based within and outside higher education institutions.

The Directorate also compiles institutional profiles of South African higher education institutions.
